Preparing to Measure a Wall
Measurement is key when it comes to wallpaper. If you don't measure correctly, you could end up with mismatched panels or wallpaper that's too small (or large) for your walls. And believe us, that's a headache you don't want to deal with.
So, how do you go about measuring your walls for wallpaper? Well, it depends on the shape of your wall. Walls are typically rectangular, but they can also be slanted or have obstacles in them (like a window or door). In this guide, we'll walk you through how to measure each type of wall.
But before we get started, there are a few things you'll need: a tape measure, a level, a pencil, and some paper.
Always take your measurements in inches!
How to Measure a Wall With Obstacles
We recommend measuring the full height and width of the wall including the windows and doors so you could cut around the obstacles while installation.
How to Measure a Multiple Wall
You can combine the width of the walls and place the order or you can separate them and ask us for a custom order to match individual wall murals.
How Much Removable Wallpaper Do I Need?
You've measured your walls and you're ready to buy wallpaper. But how much wallpaper do you need?
Here's a quick and easy way to calculate how many panels of wallpaper you'll need:
- Divide the width by 24 to get the panel quantity. Round up to the whole number
- Round up the height to the closest option: 48, 96, 108, 120
For example, if you have a rectangular wall that's 11 feet wide and 7 feet high. (132in x 84in )
Divide the width by 24: 132/24=5.5. Round up to 6.
The height is 84. Round up to 96.
Total you’ll need 6 panels x 24in wide x 96in high
Keep in mind that this is just an estimate - you may need more or less depending on the pattern repeat and other factors. But this should give you a general idea of how much wallpaper you'll need to buy.
What Mural size to choose?
If you’d like to order the mural, round up the width and height numbers to the closest mural size we offer.
For example, if you have a rectangular wall that's 132in wide and 100in high, you need to order the mural : 144in wide x 108in high.
